Why Is Physical Therapy Important?

Updated: Mar 25, 2021

Physical therapy, or physiotherapy, is a branch of medicine that harnesses exercise, stretching, and other non-medicinal therapeutic modalities to help patients restore function and mobility and to improve their physical health. Physical therapists (PTs) are specialists in physiotherapy who help patients recover after surgery and help athletes become stronger. The recovery aspect is also sometimes called physical medicine, and rehabilitation.

Physical Therapy is especially important to patients who are experiencing certain debilitating health conditions or injuries. PTs also help those who are recovering from surgery as a key part of their comprehensive rehabilitation program.
